Our ensembles are led by an extremely talented and devoted team of music directors, organists and soloists. Read about these invividuals who give of themselves tirelessly each week.
David Klement, Director of Music, holds a BM in
Voice Performance from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and Masters of
Music in Choral Conducting from the Eastman School of Music. He was the
recipient of the Candlyn Head Chorister Award and is a graduate of the
internationally acclaimed St. Thomas Boy's Choir School, New York City.
Before joining Asbury First in 1995 he held positions at Dartmouth
College, Albany Academy for Girls, Lake Avenue Baptist Church and
several church positions in the Midwest. In addition to his full-time
duties at Asbury First, David is also the Founder and Artistic Director
of the 30-member Rochester Boys Choir now celebrating its 6th
Anniversary Season.
Roger Wilhelm, Sanctuary Choir Director, is
now in his 26th year at Asbury First. He holds a DMA in Conducting from
Stanford University. He has taught at Kendall College, the University
of North Dakota and the University of Rochester's Eastman School of
Music. In 2006 he was awarded recognition by the Arts and Cultural
Council of Greater Rochester for his 20 years of service as Music
Director of the Rochester Oratorio Society. Wilhelm retired recently from directing the Rochester chamber choir MADRIGALIA after almost 20 years of dedicated leadership.
Brian Bohrer,
Youth Music Directorhas been also been a soloist and section leader at Asbury First since
September 2000. He holds a Bachelor of Music in Education and Vocal
Performance from Ithaca College and a Master of Music in Performance
and Literature from the Eastman School of Music. He has taught music in
the Rush-Henrietta Central School District since 2001, and currently
directs three choirs at the Ninth Grade Academy and Senior High School.
He is originally from Greece, NY and has been featured soloist with
many local groups including the Greece Choral Society, Irondequoit
Chorale, Opera Rochester, and the Rochester Opera Factory.
Laurie Kennedy, Asbury First Orchestra Director, holds a
BA in cello performance from the University of Mississippi and an MM in
music education from the University of Michigan. She currently performs
as the Principal cellist in the Penfield Symphony and has a private
studio in her home.
Each year our Sanctuary Choir and Asbury Singers ensembles have five
section leader/soloists, who, in addition to working with the adult
choirs, also regularly lead the congregation as soloists or as a
quartet at both the 8:30 and 11:00 AM, Weekly services.
Soprano Amy Cochrane is a graduate of The Oberlin Conservatory
of Music with a Bachelor of Music Degree in voice performance and she
also holds a Masters of Music in Voice Performance from the New England
Conservatory of Music. Amy maintains an active solo and opera career in
the national music scene and is the proud mother of Isabel born in May
2002. Amy teaches voice at Nazareth College and some private students
which she teaches in her home in Geneseo, NY.
Kristi Fisher, soprano, has
been singing at Asbury for most of her life, having been born just
after her parents (John and Elsie Wiberg) joined the newly formed
Doubler class. As a youth she was very active in the Youth Choir, and
studied voice with former Asbury First bass soloist William Briggs
while in high school. She studied Music Education and voice at Ithaca
and Nazareth Colleges, and over the years has sung with the Eastman
Rochester Chorus, the Bach Festival Chorus, and the Oratorio Society.
She was a children's and youth choir director for many years at Webster
Bible Church, and assistant youth choir director at Gates Wesleyan
Church. Currently, besides singing at both Asbury and Gates, she is a
member of the Rochester Chamber Choir, Madrigalia, and is studying
voice with Amy Cochrane. She has three grown sons, Erik, Evan, and
Benjamin, and her son Erik and his wife Beth have a little girl Emily,
so she has a new role as a grandmother.
Laura Petravage, mezzo-soprano, holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Vocal Performance from American University,
and is currently pursuing a Masters of Music degree in Choral
Conducting at the Eastman School of Music. She has a been a featured
soloist with the American University Symphony Orchestra , American
University Chamber Singers, and The Bach Sinfonia (Washington, DC). Before coming to Rochester, Laura was the Assistant Director for the Capitol Hill Youth Chorus (Washington, DC)
and Production Assistant for The Bach Sinfonia. Currently, she is a
member of several Eastman ensembles, in addition to serving as a
graduate assistant for the Department of Conducting and Ensembles.
Tenor soloist Brian Bohrer, has been a soloist and section
leader at Asbury First since September 2000. He holds a Bachelor of

Asbury First, and look forward to raising their son Charlie in the
church.
Bass soloist Eric Trumpowsky, born and raised in Rochester,
received his BM from the Crane School of Music, where he studied voice
and music education. He also holds a MM degree from Stetson University.
In addition to his position here at Asbury First, Eric is in his fifth
season as music director of the Irondequoit Chorale and has taught
music in the East Irondequoit School District for the past 15 years.
