given to the glory of God and in honor of our nephew Joe, his wife Laine, and
their children Kei and Lilea Mackey of Turlock,

of the groom’s grandparents, Clyde and Dollie Boyd, 60th wedding
anniversary; and from the wedding of Kimberly Wittman and Joseph Eallonardo and
in loving memory of Kimberly’s grandfathers Robert Sahrle and Nelson Coco.
We celebrate the baptism this morning of Arcangelo Gianni Lonardo, son
of Stacy and Carmen Lonardo, born on January 26, 2008.

sister Lola Gilbert, who died on July 6, 2008 in Honeoye Falls, NY.
We
offer our prayers and sympathy to Ed and Jeanne Ristau on the death of Ed’s
mother Mary Ristau, who died at the age of 97 on July 14, 2008 in Massachusetts.
We offer our
prayers and concern for those who are ill at home, hospitalized and in hospice
care.
CHILDREN’S AND YOUTH MINISTRIES
As a community of faith, we believe that children
are sacred gifts to us and they are most welcome in our worship. We recognize
that children can become restless during worship time. Excellent nursery and
childcare is offered. Children's bulletins are available. We have a silent
paging system available in our childcare rooms. Please ask our caregivers about
it when you sign in your child.
Children’s
Enrichment (4 yrs. through
2nd Grade) will be held after Children’s Time in the 10:00 a. m.
service. During the summer, class will be held on the 1st Floor
of the Education Wing. Parents please pick-up your children from their
classrooms after worship. Bible Beat
will resume in September.
Don’t throw away those valuable ink cartridges! Bring them
here for recycling and help our youth raise funds as well! In the sub-Narthex
and in 1050 are recycling boxes marked for cartridge recycling. Your
cartridges are worth up to $4 each and the proceeds go completely to Asbury
First’s UMYF mission trips!

Heavenly Grounds in the
Gathering Center is the
place to get a cool beverage, as well as coffee, this summer following the 8:30

signed up to host Punch Fellowship: today Young Adult Class on July 27; the
Partnership Class on August 3; the 50Plus Fellowship on August 10; and Growing
Spirits on August 17. There are a few 'open dates' and if on that Sunday,

It's
time to start cleaning out all of the clutter that you don't want, and donate
it to the annual Basement Sale, to
benefit the Storehouse, and missions of the UMW, August 1, 4:00- 7:00 p.m. and
August 2, 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Sort out your drawers, closets, house,
garage and garden. We would appreciate
it if you do not donate any TV’s, athletic machines, holiday items, lawn chairs
or books. The drop-off location is the hallway behind Fellowship Hall, parallel
to the stage entrance. We will be
marking on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 9:00 a.m. in Fellowship Hall and
also Tuesday evening July 22 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Come when you can! Any questions, please call, Debi Brown, at
244-6444.
Bless Be the Tie that Binds. Now
is the time for all good folk to register for a wonderful fall weekend
retreat. Join the church family as we
come together at Watson Homestead for study, fellowship, worship and
relaxation. This event is for everyone,
individuals and groups alike. Pick up a
registration brochure in the Welcoming Hall.

Take Me Out the the Ball Game.
Join the Church Family Life Committee after church on Sunday August 10th
for a potluck picnic on our beautiful campus, (paper goods and hot dogs
supplied by the Church Family Life Committee).
After a wonderful lunch we will caravan to Frontier Field where we will
watch the Red Wings beat (of course) the Indianapolis Indians. The game starts at 1:35 p. m., but if we
arrive early you can go to the pre-game autograph booth. After the game, all the kids will have a
chance to see what it’s like to hit a home run and “run the bases”. Purchase ticket vouchers after church in the
Welcoming Hall until August 3, or call
Bob Stickney 729-8445. We will purchase
the tickets after August 3rd and hand them out after church on the 15th. Come, bring yourself, your family and your
friends. This is for EVERYONE! If you’d like to meet us at the game, give
Bob a call, he will meet you at the gate and deliver your tickets there.
This year, in
conjunction with the Basement Sale on August 2, we are offering our members the
opportunity to show and sell their antiques, art, and/or crafts on the church
lawn. The registration fee is $25.00 or 10% of your sales (whichever is less).
Due to the number of tables needed for the Basement Sale, we will rent tables
for those who need them. The cost will be $10.00 for an 8 foot table. If you
have questions or would like a registration form, call Bonnie Kay at 473-8848
with your name and address or email

year’s Park Avenue Festival on August 2nd. Come and share your experiences of
being a part of Asbury First. We will need people to sign up for one and
two-hour shifts during the day at our information table. Everyone of all ages
is encouraged to participate. This is an opportunity for our neighbors to get
to know more about Asbury First's ministries and outreach programs. For further

Park Avenue Festival On August 2, come visit Asbury First’s
information booth near the corner of Berkeley
Street at the Park Avenue Festival. Booth
volunteers will be meeting at the church early to have the tables and tent
ready for the Festival’s 10:00 a.m. opening. Throughout the day, additional
volunteers will be making balloons to give away, and invite children to toss
homemade beanbags through the “open windows” of Asbury First’s sanctuary to
“win” a prize. Parking will be available at the church’s parking lot and our
annual Basement Sale will be taking place. The main purpose of the church’s
booth at the Park Avenue Festival is to provide information about the many
ongoing activities and outreach ministries supported by the church and serve
the local community. The most recent issue of The Visitor, and brochures for
the Dining and Caring
Center, the Storehouse,
the Labyrinth, the RAIHN ministry, and others will be handed out during the
day. Those who visit the booth will be offered an invitation to our Sunday tent
service on August 3. Last year, our volunteers enjoyed being a part of the
Festival. Thanks to everyone who supports the church’s presence at the Park
Avenue Festival each year with their thoughts and prayers, and to those who
volunteered their time and resources.
Asbury
First will be hosting our RAIHN guests starting next
Sunday, July 27th through the following Sunday, August 1. Donations of
non-perishable snacks and beverages (juices, fruit punch, water, etc) would be
appreciated. They can be dropped off in the kitchen at 1010 East Ave on Sunday morning.
Thanks to all who have promised time and talent to provide food, housing, and
hospitality!
Basement Sale needs YOU!
Beginning today July 20 and next Sunday July 27, look for a table in the
Welcoming Hall for sign-up to help with the basement sale. We need lots of help, specifically clerks
(1-2 hour segments would be most helpful), set-up help and clean-up help. Additionally, sale persons at our bake goods
table on the lawn will be helpful as well.
A WARM WELCOME TO
MELISSA, PAULA AND
RACHEL
We
celebrate this week the arrival of several new persons to our staff
team. Melissa Bohrer and Paula Dugan
will be sharing the role of Interim Children’s Ministry Coordinators. While we are searching for a permanent
Director of Children’s Ministry, Melissa and Paula will work alongside our many
dedicated volunteer leaders to ensure that children and their families continue
to enjoy programs of excellence. Both
Paula and Melissa have a wealth of experience (personally, professionally and
as volunteers here at Asbury First) that prepare them well for this exciting
opportunity.
Rachel Unkle, who recently
joined our church, begins as our Communications Coordinator. She will be editing and producing The Visitor while also leading several
new initiatives in communications. Like
Paula and Melissa, Rachel is also well-prepared for her new position. She expects to receive her Bachelor of Fine
Arts in Visual Media (with a minor in Imaging Systems) from RIT this
spring. She is also planning to stay in the Rochester area to pursue a Masters of
Communications. We are fortunate to have Rachel join our team as Caroline
Simmons (our newsletter editor for the past six years) focuses her full
attention on her pastoral ministry in Lockport.
